General Policy for the Safe and Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence Systems
National policy for the safe and ethical use of AI systems. Held and monitored; not yet summarised from the document itself.
- Part I (1-5) General Provisions — All government units and private-sector institutions that develop or use AI systems in Oman must comply fully with the policy's technical controls and ethical principles, explicitly including generative AI, and must assess system performance periodically for data safety, output integrity and accuracy, bias and harmful content. Sector regulators must align their own regulatory documents with the policy and may add stricter provisions with ministry approval. [text held as translation]
- Part II (1) Human oversight and control of sensitive decisions — Entities using AI systems must provide mechanisms for human supervision and control over sensitive and impactful decisions those systems take, and must ensure the systems' outcomes — and their effects on individuals, society and institutions — can be explained, traced and analysed. - Compliance (1-2) Compliance with the policy — The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology monitors state administrative units' compliance with the policy and reports compliance results to the Council of Ministers; sector regulators monitor compliance of the institutions in the sectors they supervise.
